April 2012

From Our President

Dear Camp Family,

Luanne and I send warm greetings from the camp family here in Avon Park. We have just concluded the last Friday night service of the season, where I preached about "The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world." And I concluded the message by singing "Watch the Lamb". Mr. Wilmer Lawson has made a recording of that service available on CD for any who would like to order it from the camp office.

Here are the two latest improvements to the camp facilities:

1. Gary Meek and his staff have installed irrigation and laid new beautiful sod in the entire area on the West side of the Tabernacle. Thank you Gary.

2. The "Gospel Music Gang" raised the money to enlarge the cemented area south of the Snack Bar and had a new aluminum roof installed over the entire area. In the Fall, we are planning a dedication for that facility, as a professional sign is installed naming it the "Gospel Music Pavilion."

Thank you to all who contributed to each of these projects.

Have a blessed summer,

-- El & Luanne Kelley

Prayer Opportunities

Please pray for Paul and Anita Black, Gary and Viola Case, Len and Joanne Gamber, Eldred and Luanne Kelley, John and Blanche Louthain, Bette McVety, Fran Moore, Kathy Patterson, Glenna Shook, Martha Williams and baby Avery Corinne Williams, daughter and granddaughter of Roger and Marilyn Blackburn.

Dr. Kelley asks us all to be in prayer this month as the camp seeks a new Financial Secretary and a new Treasurer.

Please pray for Greg and Shirley Carlson as he is in Ecuador April 9-14 and Colombia April 14-22 to visit evangelistic church-planting teams. Please also pray for Tiffany as she faces emotional struggles at school and side effects of new medication for arthritis.

Personal Greetings

My heartfelt thanks to all who prayed for my brother Robert (Rocky) Givans. Rocky stayed at the camp several times. He passed away on February 22, 2012 while awaiting a Dual Transplant.

Thank you, also, to those who purchased my packet "Blessings of Camp" at the Talent Showcase. Rocky's beautiful poem "Precious Journey" is in the packet which can be purchased at the camp bookstore.

Sincere Appreciation,

-- Jim and Barb Rike

Jeannine and I wish to thank our Avon Park Family for your prayers, your loving support and the many cards which helped to comfort us and ease the pain of losing our son Michael Grenfell.

Mike's passing came as a shock as on Friday (before he passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2012) he called us to tell of the University Hospital of Michigan having called him to make an appointment the following week with his new hematologist. He had been very pleased to learn from the nurse that she used to work with his doctor at Mayo Clinic and felt sure she could have the new hematologist arrange a consultation with him before Mike came for his appointment.

Today, we rest assured that God knows best and Mike is free from anymore physical struggles regarding his future. He is now at home with our Lord and Savior and we celebrate his life of influence for 27 years as a high school teacher at Edsel Ford High School in Dearborn, Michigan.

The weekly winter Bible study concluded last week. This season Ray Bachman taught on the prophecy of Zechariah. Due to the generosity of several families it was possible to give more than 115 copies of Ray's study on Zechariah to those attending the studies. The 128-page book is entitled The God Who Remembers and is available online at Morning Star Ministries as well as from Ray and at Amazon.com.

Ray is available for conducting prophecy seminars or special meeting with your church or group. You may contact him by phone at 870-405-4033 or by email at bachmanjr@gmail.com.

Financial Roundup

REGULAR BUDGET

March 30 was the last Friday Night Service for this camp season. We had a very good attendance and heard some wonderful testimonies.

Our contributions for the camp season, November through March were $58,000.00 (compared to $63,500.00 for the previous year).

We appreciate your prayers during the summer, and particularly appreciate all of our share partners whose participation helps with the summer expenses. We have one new share partner, and a total of 53 sharing compared to 64 last year.

We look forward to seeing you in the fall.

Blessings on you all.

-- Bob and Bonnie Hudson

MISSION GIVING

During Camp Meeting 2012, camp members gave and pledged a total of over $108,000 to mission organizations including WGM, OMS, YWAM, Africa Trip, and Gospel Echo Ministries. This was an increase of nearly $18,000 from our 2011! God bless you all for your missionary hearts!

Mark 3:20-21 NIV

Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered, so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat. When his family heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”

The Strange Preacher's Kid

It was the beginning of his second year of ministry. Jesus had asked for a commitment from his followers. Many had left. This was more than they were willing to give. Others stayed, still curious, wanting to know more. Seventy committed to spread the word and draw even more people to Jesus. Twelve made the commitment to be discipled so that Jesus' work would be carried on after he was gone.

Jesus demonstrated his own commitment by ministering to others even though he was neglecting rest and sustenance for his physical body. This commitment was so intense that some of his friends and family attributed it to insanity.

How many of us have been called "insane" for our intense commitment to Christ?
