APRIL 2018

From Our President

Greetings in Jesus' name,

These weeks are some of the most significant on the Christian calendar. From the crucifixion of Christ, to His glorious resurrection, and on to the launching of the New Testament church on the Day of Pentecost.

I trust that these will be days when you will be spiritually renewed and refreshed. These powerful events provide an opportunity to draw closer to God and fall in love with Jesus all over again. "Oh what a saviour."

Three Biblical phrases stand out to me from these events. The first being Christ's triumphant statement from the cross, "It is Finished." Not "I am finished" but the great plan of redemption and reconciliation with the Father was completed.

The second words were spoken by the angel at the empty tomb of Christ when he said, "He is not here, He is risen!" Christ is alive and intercedes for us today at the right hand of the Father.

The third significant statement was made on the Day of Pentecost when the inspired writer declared, "and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit."

It was for this purpose that the Avon Park Holiness camp meeting was established. May we always remain true to our message and purpose for existence: PROCLAIMING SCRIPTURAL HOLINESS!

Grace and peace,
-- Tom Hermiz

From our Director of Operations

Greetings from warm sunny Avon Park, Florida.

The weather has been absolutely gorgeous the past few weeks here in Central Florida.

You may recall the fact that 90% of our buildings here at Avon Park Camp received damage from Hurricane Irma. We give thanks to God and the many people that contributed both financially and with volunteer labor to make it possible to complete all the repairs on the buildings. The last of the repairs was the installation of a new metal roof on the Kelley apartments which was finished the last week of March. The only damage remaining from Hurricane Irma is the dock in Lake Isis that was pretty well destroyed. The estimated cost for that is $6,000, but it will wait for another day.

Many are still commenting about the great camp meeting in February. It was evident that God answered the many prayers of those who met together in various homes praying specifically for the camp meeting. We give thanks to the Lord for His work among us during those days. The evangelists and Bible teacher were outstanding, the attendance was great, the weather ideal, the financial goals were exceeded, and we are grateful for the spiritual victories won at the altar.

One of the exciting things we are able to do is live stream our camp meeting services as well as our Friday night services on the web. People from 35 different States and 10 different countries watched many of our services on line. We are also happy to report that we received almost $1,500 of donations to help with live streaming expenses during this camp season. Over the past couple of years, the board has been involved in a process of updating and revising the Articles of Incorporation and the By-laws of the Avon Park Camp Association. That process has now been completed and the board approved the new revisions in March of this year.

It’s that time of year again when most of the winter residents here at Avon Park Camp have left for places further north. We would encourage your prayers for those remaining behind here at the camp. There are many responsibilities that must be carried out here throughout the year involving reservations, housing, financial affairs, maintenance, and upgrading of facilities. The mowing and trimming of lawns also increases significantly during the summer rainy season.

There are currently 8 homes for sale here on the camp grounds. If you know of someone who may be interested in moving to Florida we would encourage you to have them check out these homes on our camp website. There are pictures of both the inside and outside of these homes on the site. To to our website, AvonParkCamp.org, and click on Homes for Sale.

We are looking forward to having two different groups come and use some of our facilities this summer. During the month of April, the Church of God will be holding a retreat on the grounds from the 13th through the 15th. In July a group from the Assembly of the Lord Jesus Christ will be holding a retreat here from the 18th to the 21st. We would encourage you to pray that everything will go well and that the Lord’s blessing will rest on those who attend these retreats. We would also like for you to pray for those who will be helping with laundry and the cleaning of rooms following each of these events.

Most of our winter residents know that our Buildings and Grounds assistant, Norm Lamy, has been diagnosed with a serious heart condition and has been hospitalized on a couple of occasions. He is currently under the care of Samaritan’s Touch and a local cardiologist as they attempt to determine how best to help him. We want to encourage you to pray for Norm during this difficult time. Some have asked if there is any way they could help with some of the medical bills. Those desiring to help may send checks to Avon Park Camp Association and indicate in the memo line of the check that it is for the (Helping Hands) fund. Then include a separate piece of paper in the envelope letting the office know that it is a gift to assist with Norm Lamy’s medical bills.

Blessings!

-- Dale Dorothy

From our Treasurer

Dear friends of Avon Park Camp,

What a Blessing Avon Park Camp Meeting, this February has been. Not only the spiritual insights that continue to work in our hearts, minds and spirits, but the generous giving of funds you provided for your camp. You helped us reach the goal of $40,000.00 for Missions, providing funds for 2 OMS families and 2 WGM families. Also, you provided funds for our goal of $35,000.00 for the Operating Expenses during the Encampment.

The new roof is on the Kelley building and is beautiful. You helped make that possible as well. Thank you so much and let us praise the Lord for His faithful supply for His camp, through you. The blanket of prayer that covered the camp this year was heart and soul of the season.

Camp Operations still continue and so do the bills, please don’t forget the needs of your camp during these long months.

Blessings,
-- Bonnie Hudson, Treasurer

Our annual Anniversary Dinner celebrated twelve couples. Click on the link to the left to see our beautiful celebrants! If you are celebrating a 50th, 55th, 60th, 65th, 70th, or 75th anniversary in 2019, be sure to watch for announcements to sign up. If you are being honored, you don't even have to bring a dish to share!!

Craft and Table Sale

This year we added donated items to our craft sale to help bring in funds for the Women's Auxiliary. (Click on Craft Show to the left to see some of the items our people brought.) We also had snacks and lunch available.

Kelley Building Roof

The Kelley Building now has a sturdy metal roof, thanks to your donations. These roofers got the roof up in just a couple of days. They were amazing!

Easter Dinner

Every table was full as we celebrated the resurrection at our annual Easter Dinner. There was plenty of food (AND DESSERTS, YUM!) left over, so if more of you can stay for Easter next year, please join us.

The Strange Preacher's Kid

"It is the signs of the times: we must struggle against evil."

We face hard times, challenges and temptations accepting that it has to be a difficult fight. After all, Satan is stronger than we are. We anticipate eagerly an end-times overcoming where the armies of God will fight the armies of Satan and win. We see a long drawn-out battle with ultimate victory. But Paul tells the Thessalonians that when the time comes, Satan will be destroyed with just a "breath of his mouth". Imagine that! And if just breathing the word will destroy Satan and his armies, how much more can the indwelling spirit of Christ empower us against our enemies, our physical, emotional and spiritual challenges!
