APRIL 2016

From Our President

Greetings to the Avon Park Camp Community of Believers,

I am delighted to announce that a very good used Baby Grand piano has been purchased and placed in the Tabernacle. I want to thank those who gave so generously to make it possible. I also want to thank Dave Coller and George and Virginia Maddrell who led the search and found the piano for us.

I am pleased to announce that following the wishes of the Board I have asked Dale Dorothy to serve as our Director of Operations. Dale has consented to take this assignment. He will preside over the day by day operations. I worked with Dale for many years at WGM and I am looking forward to working with him in this capacity. He will also preside over the Friday night services.

Currently, Dale and Dean Gilkerson are working through a transitional period of time. Dean will continue to serve as our chaplain. Please remember us In prayer as we work these personnel changes. Great days are ahead.

Trust you will have a healthy and refreshing summer.

Grace & Peace,
-- TOM Hermiz

From Our Treasurer

Bob Hudson left his home on the corner of Emmanuel Way and Kingdom Way in Avon Park, FL on February 26, 2016, for Heaven. He loved the Lord, family, church and definitely Avon Park Camp. Not only did he leave a big hole in my heart, but he left a big job to carry on.

The Avon Park Camp Board of Trustees has placed their trust in me to carry on as Treasurer for the camp. I do enlist your prayers for wisdom and understanding for all that is involved and don't really have a formal report for you on the finances; only that nothing has changed in the way the accounting continues.

The week of April 25th the auditing firm will be working with me to do the Annual Compilation for the year 2015. This must be done each year to sustain our membership with the ECFA which keeps the camp in good financial standing.

Thank you for all the prayers, cards, love and support through Bob's last days and continued concern as we continue the Lord's work for the camp. I do plan to live in Avon Park so may be reached by phone: 863-452-5081.

-- Bonnie Hudson, Treasurer

From our Director of Operations

We bring you greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus our risen Lord.

I am honored to have the privilege of serving as Director of Operations at The Avon Park Holiness Camp Association. I am humbled as I think of the impact this organization has had on the lives of so many people and of the men and women who have served to make it what it is today.

We believe there are great days ahead for Avon Park Holiness Camp. Would you pray with us for God's blessing and His direction as we all work together to fulfill His desires for Avon Park Holiness Camp.

Glenna and I have just boarded a flight to Monterrey, Mexico beginning our pastoral visit to the World Gospel Mission missionaries of both the Mexico and the Texas/Mexico Border fields. We would appreciate your prayers over these next couple of weeks as we seek to minister to and encourage these special servants.

-- Dale

From our Technical Team

The Avon Park Holiness Camp Tech Repair shop is now closed and will reopen in late Dec 2016.

The Internet on the entire Avon Park Campus will be shut down for the summer effective April 30th, 2016 and will be set back up sometime in early November 2016. This is to prevent another loss of internet equipment during the summer lightening storms.

Thank You,

-- The Technical Team

Anniversary Dinner 2016

On Thursday, February 24th, 23 couples were honored at the Annual Avon Park Holiness Camp Anniversary Dinner. Those honored were celebrating their 50th, 55th, 60th, 65th, and 76th anniversary. Click Here to see the honored couples.

A Chat with Sue Steury

On March 17 Luce Lounge was filled with ladies to hear Ann Fisher interview Sue Steury about her life and mission experiences. We were also treated to special music by Roger Blackburn on his trumpet. Thank you, Women's Auxiliary, for providing this opportunity for us to hear one of our own missionary heroes.

New Piano

|

During Camp Meeting Dr Hermiz talked about the need for a new piano. Money was collected and Dave Coller was assigned to investigate and purchase a piano. Dave consulted with George and Virginia Maddrell as well as several other people, contacted several companies, and located a Kawai Baby Grand in Tampa.

While in Tampa, Dave, George and Virginia were shown a relatively new Samick ebony 5'3" Baby Grand. The quality, appearance and sound were impressive. With the purchase we were given a cover and a new piano bench, delivery, and setup. In addition the piano will be retuned prior to the start of the camping season in November.

This piano was delivered in time for the last two Friday evening services (see photos above).

New Palm Trees

Two new Palm trees have been planted along the lakefront. They were donated to the camp by Don Rhoades. Thank you, Don!

The Strange Preacher's Kid

8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us. -- 1 John 1:8-10 NIV

Sometimes I think about things I did when I was not walking in God's will. I think, "I still feel remorse, even shame; won't God ever forgive me?"

Last Sunday Rev. Daryl Brown spoke on forgiveness. I cannot quote his words, but what I heard was, "Being forgiven doesn't mean we forget. Being forgiven means God forgets. When we remember, we are ever more grateful to Him for that forgiveness."

Today John Comstock posted a devotional thought,

"When it comes to forgiveness, I often times wonder if remembering is actually an essential part of forgiveness. It is because we remember that we forgive and in our remembering we do so in a way that reframes memory within a Christo-centric context.

"So, I wonder if it might be better to say "forgiving and moving forward" rather than "forgiving and forgetting." This implies that the past does shape our present state while also informing our future. When we "move forward" it allows us to language forgiveness in such a way that we have stepped out of the victim role into a one of being the beloved.

"Once we do this, we actually can be proactive in our living rather than reactive. When we begin to see the perpetrator as being victimized by their own sinfulness and/or woundedness we have but a mere glimpse of what it was for Christ to say from the cross, 'Forgive them for they know not what they do.'"

I am forgiven, and understanding the nature of His forgiveness helps me understand forgiving others.
